Intro

Her practice explores the intersections between nature and artifice through a multidisciplinary approach incorporating sculpture, photography, and installation to investigate aquatic ecosystems, geological formations, and human-altered landscapes.

Moraes' work is characterized by a fascination with the interaction between organic and synthetic, and by combining materials such as clay, recycled glass, resins, and silicone, she seeks to blur boundaries with abstract configurations that invite viewers to contemplate the metaphysical relationships between materials and the ways in which they can evoke associative thinking. Through her explorations, Moraes aims to raise questions about the interconnection and delicate balance between human activity and the natural world.

Delving into the transformation of matter and its co-authorship of the creative process, Anália chooses clay as her main medium, recognizing its ability to record time and express human subjectivity. Her sculptures are the result of a constant mediation between gesture and matter, action and reaction, where any cracks become witnesses to transformation. She also uses glass for its autonomy and potential for renewal, while ceramic firings are seen as an “accelerated revelation of geological time.”

By exploring the material ambiguity of her works, Anália Moraes invites the viewer to an intimate approach, creating a game of recognition and estrangement where the artificial mimics the organic, destabilizing perceptions and provoking reflection on the boundaries between the natural and the constructed.
