Carolina Colichio

Colichio works with painting, sculpture, and installations. Her production stems from attentive listening to the material, making images and forms spring from a daily practice of observation, fabulation, and translation that returns to materiality. In the shifts between city and nature, her poetics find fertile ground for enchantment, creating sculptural hybrids that are not easily named, generating strangeness while touching on something familiar—sensory memories that evoke times before the recognition of the world. 

Carolina proposes fictional archaeologies, revealing creatures that inhabit the zones of fusion between the organic and the mineral, as if they had been deposited by ancestral geological flows from various eras. Her experiments with ceramics, porcelain, enamels, and beeswax not only expand her vocabulary of materials—having started with watercolors at the beginning of her artistic career—but also reiterate the presence of a deep time in the composition of her works, and a space for speculations that entangle past, present, and future. They are organisms from a world that was once sea, creatures that suggest the existence of rivers buried beneath cities, marine or plant ancestors in the fossils of a long now of which humanity is only a millionth of a second. 

The collection of works also emphasizes the artist's interest in the porosity of beings that enable their constant exchanges with the world. Each piece seems to be nourished by winds, water flows, and suspended minerals proliferating silently, as if the work itself were a living creature, fed by invisible contacts. Carolina Colichio invites us, thus, to walk as if listening to the wind: to perceive, within the urban and concrete world, the reverberations of the beings who were here before us—and who continue, patiently, to teach us other ways of living together.
