Carolina Colichio: CAVALINHAS E FALÉSIAS

Starting September 12, Galeria Marilia Razuk will feature Carolina Colichio’s latest work. Titled “Horsetails and cliffs”,  the exhibition features pieces cast in aluminum—a technique Colichio is using for the first time—combined with processes that have long defined her work, such as ceramics, porcelain, glazes, and the ancient painting method known as encaustic. Colichio moves between sculpture, painting, and installations, and her artistic research stems from daily observation and her transitions between the city and nature, exploring the subtle connections between the urban environment and the planet’s deep time.

In “Horsetails and cliffs”, with a critical essay by Pollyana Quintela, the porous, cratered surfaces of the works made of cast aluminum evoke both rock erosion and coral formation, as Pollyana explains: “The pieces function as small, autonomous topographies, capable of evoking at the same time a fragment of a cliff, a section of a tectonic plate, the mark of an impact, or even lunar debris, with no certain origin, as if they had landed there from another time or another place.”
